Switch to Godot

Last year Ikoni Studio switched to the Godot Game Engine for mobile game development. The first game to transition was Soulitaire back in May 2025.  Why did we transition? Prior to the transition we built our games in Java. This language locked us into Android and we would have to master another language (Swift) in order to offer our games in the App Store. With our small size mastering two languages would be a tall order. It would significantly increase game development time and double to effort needed to keep games u to date and bug free. The alternative, a game engine, allows us to master just one language to offer our games across multiple platforms.  In December of 2025 the switch to Godot finally paid off! We were able to publish Soulitaire in both the Play Store and App Store. Also, with Godot we were able to more easily add game features to make Soulitaire and even more unique and engaging game experience. Although the journey to learn, build and port Soulitaire was no was no easy feat, it was still the most expeditious pathway for us. An unfortunate side effect of this transition is we’ve had to temporarily suspend support from our other 2 games: Kisio and Ikoni Word Search. We do not have the resources to maintain the necessary updates for the games in Play Store. We still have the base code and hope to one day soon rebuild the games in Godot. With the transition in 2025 it slowed our growth down significantly. We are planning to make up for lost time in 2026. We hope that the transition pays dividends this year with faster development of new games for both the Play Store and App Store!

Soulitaire Comes to the App Store

It has been a very, very long journey, much longer than we ever could have expected. However, we are happy and super proud to say that as of December 2025 Soulitaire is officially in the App Store! So what took so long? It’s only been years! Well, Ikoni Studio is a small shop with extremely limited resources. Earlier this year we switched over to the Godot game engine and it has taken a significant amount of time and energy to master that platform for Android. The benefit to the switch is that now we transport the game more easily to the App Store. Having Soulitaire finally in the App Store is beyond exciting. We hope that in the following years we are able to grow the game and bring joy to as many people as possible – especially during these turbulent times. If you haven’t downloaded it yet – what are you waiting for! Play in Color!

Soulitaire Update

One of our core principles at Ikoni Studio is quality. We want all our games to be a joy to play, to operate smoothly without bugs and crashes. This is always an ongoing battle because no app is perfect, no matter how experienced the developer might be. Soulitaire is no different. Although the game has come a long way in terms of reduction of bugs, there is always room for improvement! We’ve spent the first month of 2024 removing a few persistent bugs within the app as well as adding a few bells and whistles to the user interface. Not to get too far into the weeds, but we’ve changed how the game handles saving games in progress, card tracking, management of undoing card moves, etc. Overall we’ve reduced the lines of code in the app which makes it easier to troubleshoot. Beyond reducing/eliminating bugs and crashes, we hope these changes also improve the game’s speed, especially at startup. We’ve also added a new font style to the game’s interface, as well as a few new images. The biggest change to game play is a variety of reward messages and colorful images if you win the game under 60 or 90 seconds. Surely there will always be more to do to eliminate bugs/crashes, improve the game’s mechanics and update user interface. We are confident this first 2024 update to Soulitaire is a significant step forward in all three areas. Enjoy Soulitarians!

2023 In Review

As they say – time flies when you’re having fun! It definitely feels like 2023 came and went with the quickness. 2023 has been a super fun and busy year for Ikoni Studio and we achieved a number of major accomplishments. Below are a few of our highlights: Released KISIO to the Google Play Store Released Ikoni  Word Search to the Google Play Store Updated the Ikoni Studio Website Released more than a dozen updates to Soulitaire Although 2023 was busy, busy and then more busy – there is still so much more to do! We have so many more game ideas and goals to accomplish. Unfortunately, we will have to curtail our ambition a bit in 2024. For this year, our plan is only for a single new game release during the second half of the year. The first half of 2024 is dedicated to improving our current roster of games by adding features, refining game play and improving performance. In the new year we are also planning to continue updates to our website and to be much more engaged on social media. We also plan to greatly increase our efforts towards marketing and promotion because building fun and exciting games is only fun and exciting when a mass of people are playing and enjoying them! We must do a better job of getting the word out to all the gamers out there. Last, but not least, we are planning a move from Southern California back to the East Coast which will be a big change for us. Surely there will be other activities that will bubble up to the top in 2024. There will never be enough hours in the day or days in the year to get everything done. 2023 was a pivotal year for our tiny studio, and we are looking forward to 2024. We are planning on 2024 to be a monumental year for the growth of Ikoni Studio!
